What is your biggest challenge in writing?
I would say my biggest challenge in writing would be finding the time. I work full time as a News Writer, and also have a second part-time job, so sometimes it is difficult to sit down and write without interruption. But, when I finally get a free moment I jot down any ideas I have and go with it.
What is your favorite book you have written or are working on?
My favorite book, so far at least, that I have written is definitely my Eloquentia books. I love the series. It was first thing I ever sat down and fully wrote and it will always mean a lot to me. The characters are still a part of me. I cried with them, laughed with them and and when I stopped working the series it felt like something was empty. It is something I will be revisiting in the future.
What is your inspiration?
Anything and everything. I use things I see in my everyday life. I also read everything I can get my hands on and pick up tips from everywhere.
Why did you want to become a writer?
When I was little my grandfather would read to me constantly. When he passed away I found comfort in books. It was my way to get away from everything for a brief moment in time. After that I began to write my own stories, because there seemed to not be enough books in the world. I came to love creating my own stories and worlds. Once I got older, I realized there was so much more to writing than I ever knew and now it's my life.
Did you self publish?
No. I didn't for my first books. I went through a traditional publisher. I have nothing against self-publishing, but it was never for me. I have thought about taking this route, however, for a future book. It is something I will decide in the future. As of right now, however, I have no plans to self-publish. I am currently searching for an agent.
How did you get published?
After finishing my novel, editing, re-writing, editing again and re-writing some more I began the long journey for a publishing house. I was turned down numerous times before finding one who would take me. Then I mailed the book off (with the help from Raymond Hardwick, a wonderful man and teacher) to the publish house. The accepted it and here I am.
How can I get published?
Do your research. Once you have finished something and you are one hundred percent certain it's in the best shape possible, find an agent. Check out the Writer's Market books or go to Preditors and Editors. There you will find the most reputable agents out there. And, NEVER pay anything up front to have your book represented or published. Always research what the agent wants and how they like their submissions to be. If you do not follow their guidelines, most will not accept the submission.
